If you wanted to honor your parents or another family member who has influenced your life, you would be hard-pressed to find a more fitting way than to establish a named endowment. Such an endowment carries the honoree’s name far into the future as it benefits a worthy cause through annual gifts.

For example, you could create an endowment fund honoring a family member. This fund, bearing their name, would produce a certain amount each year to support the purpose of the endowment. It could be for operations, for leadership training, medical community needs, or to underwrite a specific program.

It could also be created in a manner that would give CMH Regional Health System the authority to determine how the funds should be used.

Every time the fund is mentioned, the memory of your family member would be acknowledged and honored. The association of their name with CMH Regional Health System and the CMH Foundation would recognize the values consistent with the CMH mission. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren would identify with the endowment and perhaps contribute to the fund through their charitable gifts, thus developing their own philanthropic instincts.

Endowment funds are easy to establish, and they last indefinitely. They can be launched now with current gifts, or created later through a will bequest or other deferred gift. Another possibility is to start an endowment now and add to it later through a bequest. Of course, the advantage of getting an endowment started now is that you can enjoy the experience of seeing your family member honored while you are alive.

With careful financial planning through a trust or will, a person can leave a portion of an estate to CMH Regional Health System or Clinton Memorial Hospital through the CMH Foundation. Regardless of the estate’s size, planned giving benefits the donor as well as the hospital and health system.

Specific funds, given outright or through planned giving, can establish an endowment in a person’s name for general use or for a purpose specified by the donor. The principal from these funds is kept intact and a portion of the interest income is used for the intended or unrestricted purpose. All endowments through the CMH Foundation are recorded through the Hale Heritage Endowment Society.
